WTI's managed-money net long, still at the 96.8th percentile of its three-year range as of the 27 October COT report despite a 4,481-contract weekly reduction, has only begun to unwind against a single-session drop of 6.59% that is far larger than the positioning flow has yet confirmed, leaving more room for the long to capitulate further than to rebuild.
- What would prove it wrong
- The next Commitments of Traders report, expected 10 November 2026 covering the week to 2 November, will show whether the managed-money net long continues falling in step with the price move: if the net long stabilizes or rises while WTI crude remains depressed, the long has already capitulated and the stretched-long reading is retired; if the long keeps falling, the reading is sustained.
