The high-yield credit spread sits at the 99.2nd percentile of its year while jobless claims have fallen to 194,000, their lowest since July, and the Fed futures curve prices a firmer policy path over the next twelve months.
- What would prove it wrong
- If the high-yield credit spread narrows back toward its range prior to the 13 October acceleration while initial jobless claims remain near current lows, the credit-stress signal would have overstated the deterioration.
- Review condition
- the US Note 5-Year auction on 22 October 2026: a weak auction (soft bid-to-cover, tail versus when-issued) alongside continued high-yield spread widening would tighten the fiscal-credit vise; a strong auction with a stabilizing spread would ease it
