The yield side of the ledger is unambiguous. The 2-year Treasury closed at 4.68% on 26 October 2026, a reading in the 90th percentile of its trailing year and 1.73 standard deviations above its recent average. That is nowhere near the 4.60% level the 23 October note flagged as the break-condition. By that single test, the thesis survives intact.#

The positioning side has not moved since the note was written. It cannot. The Commitments of Traders report is weekly, and the most recent data still covers the week ending 13 October 2026, the same vintage the desk already cited. In that report, leveraged funds held a net short of 1,375,332 contracts in the UST 2Y NOTE, a 91st-percentile stretch against the trailing three years. The week's flow showed gross shorts grow by 130,855 contracts against a smaller 22,290-contract rise in gross longs. Nothing in the public record says whether that short has grown, shrunk, or reversed in the two weeks since.#

A yield holding above a line is not the same evidence as a short that has not moved; one is confirmed, the other is simply unmeasured.#

This matters because the thesis was never just about the yield. The original case paired a record positioning stretch with a Fed path the futures curve prices firmer, not easier: the 12-month delta sits at 74 basis points, a higher path priced, not cuts. That combination, a crowded short leaning on a tightening-biased curve, is what made 4.60% meaningful in the first place. If the short has already begun covering since 13 October, perhaps in response to the Federal Funds Rate decision due 28 October at 18:00 UTC with the forecast unchanged at 4.00%, the yield holding above 4.60% would say nothing about whether the crowded position survives. Calling the thesis 'sustained' would be premature on a report that predates the test it is meant to grade.#

The honest position is narrower than a verdict either way. The yield level has not broken. But the positioning data needed to say the broader thesis is intact simply has not been refreshed. The next Commitments of Traders report, covering the week to 20 October 2026, is the first data point that can actually speak to whether leveraged funds held, added to, or trimmed the short since the Fed's 28 October decision was priced. Until that report lands, this is a partial test, not a full one, and the desk treats it as such.#
